Regulatory Alert on Health Hazards of Skin-Lightening Beauty Trend
An investigation has unveiled that skin whitening or brightening drips containing glutathione are being offered by over 300 beauty salons in the UK, often without medical oversight. These treatments, not licensed as medicines, pose significant safety risks according to experts. The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) is calling for urgent regulation of this sector. Channel 4’s findings show that these procedures are mostly administered by non-medical professionals, with potential dangers including liver and kidney strain and infections. While the cost ranges from £75 to £100, experts and campaign groups are urging strict regulation and caution in using these treatments.
