Lakers Set to Open Vegas Summer League Against Cooper Flagg and Mavericks

LAS VEGAS — The Los Angeles Lakers are back under the spotlight as they open NBA 2K26 Summer League play against the Dallas Mavericks tonight at 5:00 p.m. PT at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Headlining the opener is a must-see matchup between Bronny James and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, as both rookies help generate a sold-out crowd on the national stage in Vegas.

Bronny James gets another shot at live-game reps following an up-and-down showing during the California Classic in San Francisco, where the Lakers finished 2–1. James’ best outing was in L.A.’s 20-point win against the Heat, where he finished with 10 points in 10 minutes in the starting unit.

On the flip side, Flagg—Duke’s 6-foot-9 phenom—enters Las Vegas with enormous expectations after being taken first overall in last month’s draft. Known for his length, defensive instincts, and high basketball IQ, Flagg is expected to take on point-forward duties in Vegas. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd noted they’ll look to put Flagg in “uncomfortable situations” to challenge him and unlock his full potential.

Just hours before tip-off, the Lakers announced the addition of Christian Koloko to their Summer League roster. The 7-foot center was originally signed to a two-way contract in September of last season and now joins the Vegas squad for Summer League action. 

The Lakers will play four games in Las Vegas: July 10 vs. the Mavericks, July 12 vs. the Pelicans, July 14 vs. the Clippers, and July 17 vs. the Celtics—all at the Thomas & Mack Center. A fifth game will be added between July 18–20 based on tournament standings.

Led by assistant coach Lindsey Harding, the Lakers’ Summer League roster features a promising mix of rookies, NBA hopefuls, and experienced talent.

Dalton Knecht is expected to lead the offense after a strong close to the California Classic. He rallied L.A. in the fourth quarter of their final game with a 25-point performance that showcased his scoring versatility.

Cole Swider has arguably been the Lakers’ best and most consistent player so far, leading the team in scoring in two of their three games this summer.

Darius Bazley, a six-year NBA veteran, has also been a bright spot. He capped off the California Classic with a game-high 28 points in the finale, displaying the type of aggressive play that could earn him a roster look this fall.

With Bronny and Knecht in the backcourt, Swider on the wing, and Koloko anchoring the paint, tonight’s game offers a clear window into the Lakers’ developing core.

It’s a perfect debut matchup to kick off the first day of Vegas Summer League. When you combine the intrigue of Bronny James, Cooper Flagg’s debut, and the energy of a packed Vegas crowd, the NBA really nailed it on this one.

One thing’s for sure: all eyes are on Vegas tonight.
