Sevilla: Signing Iheanacho was mistake

Sevilla’s sporting director, Víctor Orta has admitted publicly that signing Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho was a mistake.

The 27-year-old became Sevilla’s fifth signing of the summer, after he signed a two-year deal as a free agent, having spent last season at Leicester City.

Javi Garcia Pimienta was sacked this weekend after the defeat to Valencia and replaced by veteran coach Caparros.

Orta took advantage of Joaquín Caparrós’ presentation to assess Sevilla’s current situation.

“I’m working with objectives set by the club. We’ve had some misfortunes with the winter transfer market reinforcements. We wanted to rejuvenate the squad and lower salaries, which fell by 50 percent. I feel the frustration of having been close to Europe, but I think that in the global context, we have to acknowledge a lot of mistakes.

On the fact that the four forwards he’s signed haven’t scored a single goal: “It’s a mistake I acknowledge, although two of them were substitutes. Iheanacho ‘s was a mistake, and we’re looking into why Akor Adams has had these injuries.”
