Police advisory for Polling Day: Take public transport, don’t loiter, report suspicious activity – Mothership.SG
The police will take firm action against those who attempt to disrupt or interfere with the polling process.
As Singaporeans prepare to head to the polls on Saturday, May 3, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has issued a security advisory urging the public to exercise vigilance and cooperate with security arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe voting process.
In a news release dated May 1, the police advised voters to take public transport or walk to their designated polling stations, where possible.
Parking will not be permitted within the premises of polling venues such as schools and community centres, nor along nearby roads.
Vehicles found parked indiscriminately or causing obstruction will be summoned and may be towed away.
Special drop-off points will be available at all polling stations for voters who are sick, infirm, or disabled.
Drivers are advised to seek assistance from election officials for directions and support at these designated areas.
Don’t loiter around polling stations
The police also reminded the public not to loiter around polling stations.
“Voters should leave the polling station after casting their vote,” the advisory stated.
Emphasising public vigilance, the police urged citizens to report any suspicious individuals or unattended items by calling “999”.
Examples include persons with unusual attire or behaviour, or abandoned bags and parcels.
Where feasible, such concerns should also be brought to the attention of election officials on-site, said the SPF.
“The police are committed to ensuring the public’s safety and security on Polling Day,” the SPF affirmed.
“We will not hesitate to take firm action against any persons who attempt to disrupt or interfere with the polling process.”
