Ami Colé, a beauty brand for melanin-rich skin, is shutting down.
Black-owned beauty brand Ami Colé will be closing down in September. The founder, Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye, cited the difficulty in competing with larger corporate brands with substantial financial resources as a reason for the decision. Founded in 2021 to serve melanin-rich skin, Ami Colé received investments from L’Oréal and other venture capital firms and achieved a significant retail partnership with Sephora in 2022. Despite growing its revenue by 75% the previous year, the brand struggled with the high costs of prime retail shelf space. N’Diaye-Mbaye expressed gratitude to fans and investors, acknowledging the brand’s journey and impact. The closure comes amid workforce reductions by major beauty companies like Estée Lauder and Shiseido, indicating broader industry challenges.
