Anshul Kamboj saves MS Dhoni from embarrassment

Anshul Kamboj, the Chennai Super Kings pacer, saved his captain, MS Dhoni, from embarrassment. Anshul trapped dangerous and Orange Cap holder Nicholas Pooran in front of the stumps, but the on-field umpire turned down his appeal. He urged Dhoni to take a DRS, but the veteran told him that the ball was going towards the leg side and the batter was not out.

However, Kamboj continued to request, and Dhoni finally agreed with just 5 seconds left on the DRS timer. The third umpire took the help of technology, and the hawk-eye showed that the ball was crashing into the stumps. He urged the on-field umpire to change his decision and declarer the batter out. Pooran was given his marching order after scoring 8 runs off 9 balls, with the help of 2 fours.

Pooran had been unstoppable in the previous game, and if Dhoni had not used the umpire decision review system, the southpaw could have played another match-winning innings. Dhoni would have faced criticism if that happened, but Anshul’s confidence saved the day for the captain.

In 7 matches, Pooran has amassed 357 runs at an average of 59.50 and a strike rate of 208.77. He has hit four fifties, 31 sixes and 28 fours so far.

Dhoni had to return as a captain midway as regular leader Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury. Chennai lost Mahi’s first match as a skipper against Kolkata Knight Riders at home. CSK scored 103/9, and the Knight Riders completed the task in 10.1 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

Chennai started the new campaign with a win over Mumbai Indians but lost the next five matches, including three at Chepauk. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and KKR have stunned them in their territory.
