Bill Gates Tries Durian In S’pore Hawker Centre; “Who’s This Old Man?” Asks Netizen

You’d think Bill Gates is a household name, given that he was the world’s richest person for a record of 18 years. After all, who hasn’t used Microsoft before, right?

But that’s apparently not the case for TikTok content creator Rebecca. 

Yesterday (May 6), Rebecca bumped into the Microsoft co-founder at a hawker centre in Singapore and posted about it.

In her video, the 69-year-old billionaire was surrounded by a film crew and a throng of bystanders while he tasted one of our local specialties, durian. 

The American businessman and philanthropist, who’s said to be in town recently to set up a charity foundation, also had a bodyguard standing behind him the entire time while he dug into the king of fruits. 

What took us by surprise, however, was the fact that Rebecca actually had no idea who she was looking at when she took the video.

“Who is this old man, so many people came to take his photo,” she asked in her caption.

“What do you mean who is Bill Gates?” asked a netizen, who was just as bemused as us. 

Just in case you’re clueless too, Bill became a billionaire at the age of 32 in 1987 and was the world’s youngest-ever self-made billionaire at that time. 

He held the World’s Richest Man record for 18 years until Amazon founder Jeff Bezos snagged that title from him in 2018. Bill is currently ranked 13th on the Forbes Real Time Billionaires List.

So to say it in the words of one netizen: “Bro can buy the entire market”.
