John Terry names signing that would take Chelsea to the next level
After securing a qualification spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League on the final day of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Chelsea are set for a huge transfer window.
While the jury remain out on who the Blues should sign this summer, Enzo Maresca could look to bring in at least four key players to improve his young squad.
Experience is a key focus in Maresca’s mind with Chelsea averaging the youngest squad of the five EPL teams to qualify for the UCL.
Former Chelsea skipper and club legend John Terry has urged the Blues to sign a proven centre-forward with a track record of scoring goals at the top level.
The ex-defender knows plenty about what makes a top striker but he has doubts over what the club’s plan is.
Terry is confident Chelsea can take the ‘next step’ by adding an experienced No. 9, but he’s unsure if that fits with what the ownership are aiming for – based on their current strategy of focusing on young talents.

Who John Terry wants Chelsea should sign this summer
Terry told talkSPORT: “I think if you’re looking to go to that next step, you need to bring in someone who’s proven, who’s done it, scored goals in the Premier League. That tends to be an experienced player.”
“The owners are clear they’re not going to go down that route. They don’t want to bring in someone of 29 or 30 years of ag on big money. It’s going to be a different model and a different mindset. So, I don’t think we’ll go down that route, but I personally feel we do need [an experienced striker].”

While Chelsea have been linked to a long list of strikers ahead of the transfer window, Victor Osimhen seems like the best choice for the Blues, as his Napoli future remains unresolved.
The Nigeria international has a proven track record of scoring goals, with a whopping tally of 36 in 40 games on loan at Galatasaray in 2024/25, but he may not fit the model Terry mentions.
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Huge Ekitike looks to be a more realistic target with Chelsea reportedly ready to make an offer to the Bundesliga side.
