After marrying a 23-year-old Vietnamese bride via a matchmaking agency, a 42-year-old Korean unexpectedly contracted four sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) seven months into their marriage.

He later reportedly found out that his wife had been doing sex work in Korea, and engaged in prostitution with at least 600 men.

Married foreign bride after breakup

On May 11, the man, known as A, shared his story on a YouTube channel “ThuU B Family”.

According to Korean media outlets, A, who stays in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi province in South Korea, had become interested in marrying a foreign bride after ending a relationship of 12 years.

In September 2022, A was introduced to 15 Vietnamese women through a matchmaking agency.

He chose a woman, B, who was fluent in Korean, and the two went on a blind date in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

A month later, A revisited Vietnam and got engaged to B.

The two were married in December 2022 and moved to Korea in March 2023.

Got STI 7 months into marriage

However, seven months later, in October 2023, B suddenly complained of lower abdominal pain.

The couple went for a medical checkup at an obstetrics and gynaecology clinic, and B was diagnosed with four sexually transmitted diseases.

A was also found to be infected with the same STDs.

There had been no abnormalities in B’s health checkup prior to entering Korea.

A’s suspicions were heightened when his wife left home in October 2024 on the pretext of meeting a close friend, but became uncontactable for three days, Maeil Business News reported.

When she returned home, B refused A’s requests to see her mobile phone, and also attempted to harm herself.

A later found that the “close friend” was B’s lover.

A said B confessed that she had engaged in prostitution and that her lover had been a regular at the adult entertainment establishment she worked at.

Wife serviced over 600 men

According to an attendance log obtained by A, starting from May 2024, B worked at the establishment six days a week, from 2pm to 9pm, and provided services to over 600 men.

During that period, A said B lied to him, saying that she was going out to study, go for a skin care routine, or work part-time, Naver reported.

A has since filed a divorce suit against B, along with a damages lawsuit.

B initially asked for a reduction in alimony, saying “I will pay it back by working at an entertainment establishment.”

However, she subsequently cut off contact with A and went into hiding.

A said he is sharing his story to prevent other victims from being affected by B.

A’s story has since garnered significant traction online, with the original video garnering more than 1.8 million views as of May 19.

Some commenters called for stricter background checks for foreign brides.

Others urged that brides who enter Korea to conduct sex work should be deported.
