Salicylic Acid Revealed as the Top Searched Skincare Ingredient

The data from digital marketing agency Foundation indicates that salicylic acid is the top-searched skincare ingredient of 2024, with an average of 60,500 monthly searches. This trend reflects a growing consumer demand for scientifically supported, effective skincare solutions, as noted by Olivia Ford, Head of Performance at Foundation. This rise in search interest is attributed to increased consumer education during the pandemic, creating a knowledgeable consumer base aware of the benefits of ingredients like salicylic acid, known for targeting acne and improving skin texture.

Following salicylic acid, retinol and its derivatives are the second most-searched ingredients, with 49,500 monthly searches, due to their effectiveness in reducing fine lines and pigmentation. Hyaluronic acid, while matching retinol in searches, experienced an 18% decline, indicating shifting consumer interests towards ingredients like glycolic acid and peptides, which saw increases in interest, likely due to their exfoliating properties.

This data suggests that social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram significantly aid in educating users and demystifying skincare terminology, contributing to a more informed consumer base seeking clinically proven skincare solutions.
