Shiseido’s Enhanced Ultimune Serum Targets Cellular-Level Skin Aging
Shiseido’s latest breakthrough, the fourth generation of the Ultimune Power Infusing Serum, is inspired by the camellia flower, a symbol of beauty and strength since 1915. This flower is known for its hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and collagen-boosting properties. Recent research in collaboration with Harvard University has shown that fermenting camellia extract enhances its ability to combat aging skin cells.
The research, part of a 35+ year partnership between Shiseido and the Cutaneous Biology Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, has revealed that fermenting camellia seed extract boosts the skin’s immune response, particularly by recruiting T cells. This leads to the removal of aged skin cells and promotes a healthier, younger appearance.
The new Ultimune Serum incorporates fermented camellia along with other beneficial ingredients such as hydrating fermented roselle extract, soothing heartleaf extract, and antioxidant-rich reishi mushroom. The fermentation process used is similar to that in Japanese sake production, significantly increasing the camellia seed’s amino acid content.
Beyond enhancing skincare, this research has implications for understanding the role of viruses like Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in immune function and cellular aging. Shiseido’s serum not only embodies beauty advancements but also bridges into groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
