Singapore’s political parties court voters ahead of Saturday polls

SINGAPORE — Singapore is in the midst of an election campaign, with political parties holding rallies to appeal to voters ahead of the May 3 polls. 

Stakes are high for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s ruling People’s Action Party as it attempts to address voter concerns over higher living costs and job security, on top of economic uncertainties driven by sweeping U.S. tariffs. In this election, the PAP will face opposition challengers in nearly all the electoral constituencies.

The vote will be closely watched by foreign companies and investors that lean on trade-dependent Singapore as a strategic base in Asia amid rising geopolitical tensions.
