Skincare: Doctor Reveals Common Household Item to Avoid Using on Your Face

Dr. Gizem Seymenoglu has highlighted several common household items that can negatively affect skin health:

  1. Loofahs: While effective for exfoliating, their rough texture can damage the skin barrier, causing irritation and dryness. If not cleaned regularly, they can harbor bacteria and fungi.

  2. Bar Soap: Can alter skin pH and dry out the skin. A body wash is recommended as it tends to be more hydrating.

  3. Mobile Phones: Frequent touch leads to oil, makeup, and bacterial buildup, which can cause skin issues. Regular disinfection with wipes is suggested.

  4. Pillowcases: Keeping them clean is crucial. Avoid synthetic fabrics like elastane and nylon to prevent allergic reactions.

  5. Headphones: Can accumulate bacteria from handling and surface contact, posing similar risks as mobile phones.

  6. Fabric Softeners and Detergents: Often contain chemicals, fragrances, and dyes that may irritate the skin and cause allergies.

  7. Makeup Brushes: These can harbor significant bacteria. Regular cleaning, ideally every week or every other week, is essential. Using multiple brushes can help maintain hygiene.

Maintaining cleanliness and opting for gentler materials or products can help mitigate these risks and promote better skin health.
