Originating from Korean skincare, spicules are tiny, needle-like structures derived from sources such as marine sponges or synthesized materials. The spicules work by gently piercing the skin’s outermost layer (the stratum corneum), potentially stimulating cell turnover and collagen production. This allows for improved absorption of skincare actives and offers a prolonged, slow-release of the ingredients, enhancing efficacy. Despite the immediate discomfort—described as applying fiberglass to the skin—the long-term benefits may outweigh this initial sensation.
