Unilever Reveals Initial Connection Between Skin Microbiome and Mental Health

Unilever has announced a pioneering study linking the skin microbiome to psychological wellbeing, suggesting a new direction for skincare innovation. Collaborating with the University of Liverpool, the research found that higher levels of beneficial skin microbes, especially Cutibacterium, are associated with reduced stress and enhanced mood. This marks the first time such specific microbiome-wellbeing connections have been identified. Unilever plans to leverage these findings in its brands like Dove and Vaseline, reflecting the growing consumer interest in the connection between beauty and mental wellness, and aiming to create products that enhance both physical appearance and emotional health.
