Nigerian Specialists Warn Against Self-Treating Skin Issues

Skin care experts in Nigeria have urged individuals to consult professionals before using skin products. This advice was shared at the “Global Skincare Consulta-thon,” part of the 2025 Skin Care Awareness Month in September, organized by The Aesthetic Clinic and partners including the Beauty Therapy Institute. The event aimed to offer free consultations to over 1,000 clients.

Mrs. Gloria Ojo, Head Aesthetician at TAC West Africa, highlighted the low awareness leading to product misuse. She stressed the importance of consulting dermatologists or aestheticians for proper diagnosis and treatment. Ojo explained that some external skin conditions might indicate internal health issues, like hyperpigmentation linked to diabetes.

Ms. Anulika Molokwu from BTI emphasized healthy lifestyles for skin care, such as hydration, sunscreen, healthy eating, and exercise. Mr. Raymond Nongu of TAC described the consulta-thon as a pioneering initiative, leveraging both physical consultations and tele-medicine to provide guidance and prevent skincare mistakes.

The event underlined the importance of proper skincare as part of overall health, advising individuals to maintain informed and responsible practices.
