Filming locations of Netflix series Bet you can visit in real life

The series is the latest adaptation of the manga series

A fresh Netflix series flaunts some remarkable locations, but they were actually shot at places that viewers could potentially visit in real life.

Bet is set to stream on the platform from May 15. It’s an English language, live-action adaptation of the popular Manga series Kakegurui.

While it largely stays true to the original manga, this rendition marks the first adaptation primarily targeted at American viewers.

Currently, there are two seasons of an animated version available on Netflix. This is alongside one season of the spin-off series, Kakegurui Twin and a Japanese language live-action show also named Kakegurui.

Simon Barry takes the helm as a showrunner for Bet, having previously worked on Netflix shows like Warrior Nun and Van Helsing, reports the Mirror US.

The new version is expected to usher in a whole new audience into the story’s universe. Bet follows the students at a boarding school for the global elite, where underground gambling determines the school’s pecking order.

When Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student arrives, her gambling skills put her in the crosshairs of the influential Student Council. Her covert quest for revenge threatens to completely overturn the school’s status quo.

Miku Martineau steps into the lead role as Yumeko in the cast, which includes Ayo Solanke (Clown in a Cornfield), Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O’Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo, and Ryan Sutherland.

As audiences dive into the ten-episode series upon its release, they might be distracted by the stunning settings on display. Initially, some might mistake the breathtaking locations for sound stage sets or creations of special effects technology.

Netflix revealed that the show was shot on location in Toronto, Canada, between May and July of last year. Specifically, to replicate the environment of the esteemed Hyakkaou Private Academy, the production utilized the University of Toronto, originally established as King’s College in 1827.

The grand grounds and buildings are showcased in the opening moments of the trailer for Bet. The university’s contemporary structures and verdant campus provided not only the necessary academic backdrop but also a high-end ambiance.

Some scenes were filmed at the Scarborough campus, while others were shot at the University’s buildings near downtown’s Queen’s Park, home to their major public research departments.

The university conducts campus tours throughout the year in all weather conditions, but these are exclusively for potential students. There is an online document available for self-guided tours, listing all the public spaces open for exploration around the campus.

Simon Barry, the showrunner, kept details under wraps during the shoot in the city. On his Instagram page, he posted skyline photos, captioning one: “Thanks Toronto – it’s been a slice. #betonnetflix @jacquiemg and I made some great new friends and ate some great meals.” Subsequently, he listed all his favorite eateries that he enjoyed while in town for production.
