Ipswich 1-3 West Ham: Jarrod Bowen scores and assists as Hammers beat Ipswich

Ipswich were marginally the better side in a lacklustre start and Broadhead forced recalled 40-year-old Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski into action with a curling effort.

That prompted a strong response from Graham Potter’s side, with Niclas Fullkrug then Bowen drawing saves from Ipswich keeper Christian Walton, who started the match after Alex Palmer was taken ill during the warm-up.

Morsy’s poor pass, which allowed Bowen to put Ward-Prowse in for his first goal in 12 months, summed up the defensive woes that mean Ipswich will make an instant return to the Championship.

They gave their long-suffering fans hope when a poor clearance from Fabianski and a bad touch from Fullkrug allowed Broadhead the chance to burst forward and fire home the leveller.

However, Bowen’s slick exchanges with Ward-Prowse and Aaron Wan-Bissaka gave the 28-year-old England international the chance for his 13th league goal of the season, hammered inside Walton’s left-hand post.

Kudus grabbed his fifth of the campaign to round off the scoring, although there was still time for Omari Hutchinson and Jack Clarke to go close for the spirited hosts.

Ex-Ipswich defender Aaron Cresswell, set to leave West Ham this summer when his contract ends, was given an ovation by both sets of fans when he appeared off the bench at the start of stoppage time.

While Ipswich must contemplate life back in the second tier, almost certainly without Delap following his 12-goal return, a squad rebuild over the summer seems on the cards too for Potter following a below-par season for the Hammers.
