Going down to 10 men, being 1-0 down, a normal team or a normal club would probably lose that game but this team, these fans just don’t accept losing a game of football, so they both cooperated again, worked harder and we managed to score a goal which, in my opinion, we definitely deserved as well.”
On how it felt to lift the trophy: “Special, a nice thing about it is when you’ve already won it four weeks ago you can experience two of these moments when it’s normally only one in other countries. And to do it at a club who have waited 35 years for this moment to be there when we lift the trophy, I could feel this today and I could feel this also in the Tottenham game, we couldn’t have asked for more to experience this.”
On being 12 months on from Jurgen Klopp leaving and singing his name: “Incredible. That moment was incredible what he did, to sing for me in a moment which was so special for him to already want to help the club, the team, me for the next season and that’s what he did in that moment and what he did even before that because he left the team in such a good place, disciplined, quality and that’s what made my life, my job easier to start and life as a Premier League manager is never easy because of all the competitors we had but he couldn’t have left the club in a better place than he did.”
On if it will be a busy summer for the club: “We already having a busy summer because we extended Mo [Salah] and Virgil [Van Dijk] and we are trying to strengthen the squad but that is what we always try, if we feel there is possibility to do so. Last season we decided to keep the team together.
“Someone told me, I’m not completely sure it’s true, that since Alex Ferguson won the league there has never been a team that had so many academy minutes as we had this season. Maybe if I’m wrong then someone told me wrong, so that’s was, and is, very special but we want more because our competitors want more as well and they’ve invested already a lot of money last season, some of them again during the winter and I think if you want to keep competing you have to do certain things over there as well, but again, we are very happy with the squad we have.”
