Yoshinoya Ventures into Cosmetics by Exploring Ostrich Oil’s Potential

Yoshinoya Holdings, known for its beef bowl dishes, has ventured into the skincare market with the launch of Speedia, a brand that features ostrich oil as its key ingredient. The product line includes face oil, cream, and masks, incorporating ostrich oil alongside vitamin C and spring water from Yuda Onsen, known for its skin benefits.

The company is also developing a hand and body care product with ostrich oil and keratin from ostrich feathers, targeting employees’ need for skincare due to frequent hand use. This product, fragrance-free for suitability in the food industry, is already in use by Yoshinoya staff, although it has no official launch date.

Speedia Inc., a subsidiary focused on ostrich research and product development, raises approximately 500 ostriches in Ibaraki Prefecture. Research highlights ostrich oil’s ability to enhance skin hydration and absorption of active skincare ingredients, significantly improving the efficacy of vitamin C derivatives, collagen, and niacinamide.

Additionally, Yoshinoya plans to introduce ostrich meat at its restaurants, expanding its menu to include this “fourth” meat alongside beef, pork, and chicken. Ostrich meat offers nutritional benefits, such as anti-fatigue properties and antioxidant effects, promoting food diversity and sustainability in response to global challenges like population growth and climate change.
